So… What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the application of techniques designed to keep the body operating at peak efficiency, by keeping the body ‘tuned up’.

A definition of Reflexology:

Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Reflexology describes the unique method of using the thumbs and fingers on these reflex areas, to help relieve many health issues in a natural and non-invasive way.

The benefits of reflexology are recognised by clinicians, and should never be confused with foot massage.

These benefits include, but are not limited to:

• Relief of stress and tension

• Improvement in blood supply, and promoting the unblocking of nerve impulses

• The body being able to heal itself, and to allow nature to achieve homoeostasis

Is Reflexology new?

It is believed that some form of reflexology originated in China over 5,000 years ago. However, the first documented evidence showing the practice comes from Ankhmahor’s Tomb in Saqqara, Egypt, around 2330 BC. Reflexology, as we know it today, was first researched and developed in America during the 1930s and 1940s by Eunice Ingham - the pioneer in this field - and the ‘Mother of Reflexology’.
